Human Empowerment Council Hosts "Know Your Rights" Panel Discussion

The Elder Kimberly L. Fayson Human Empowerment Council hosted a panel discussion that provided information to the community on their rights related to government overreach.  Spurred by the unrest created by intensified efforts to deport undocumented individuals, our church questioned what its response should be and how we could support families in our neighborhood.

Our panelists included Allyson Thompson (a former medical professional and community advocate), Christie Jump (attorney), and Adrian Campos (Spanish interpreter).  Moderated by Bishop Alex Byrd, the panel discussed the concerns of Hispanic individuals, how to handle surprise visits from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, and methods to address these concerns.

One of the actions out of this meeting will be the development of a "Know Your Rights" page on our website. This page will include best practices on intelligently, respectfully, and powerfully interacting with government officials while exercising the rights given to us by the constitution and the laws of the land. We anticipate completion of this page May 2025.

Living Faith Covenant Church believes that our Christian duty includes ministering to the temporal needs of community. "The Gospel, if it is to be the 'good news' must impact our daily lives," says Bishop Byrd.  It is our policy to uphold the laws of the land, if those laws do not conflict with the higher laws of morality and ethics as we understand them.
